The following systems seem to be still operational somewhere in the world (in chronological order):
Customization of the Catalyst Warehouse Management systemfor Nestle USA and Unipart UK, 1992 (this product has changed owners and I hope it is still alive)
Development of some modules of the Tata Unisys CustomerView CRM product, 1993 (as far as I know this product is dead, may it rest in peace)
Searchable electronic database of UCC filings for the Tennessee Department of State, USA,1995 (there is a browser-searchable version today; the one I built was the original client/server version Also, as far as I know, this is the only fixed-price project by an Indian vendor that was ever executed fully onsite!)
Development of portions of Aspect Development’s Strategic Sourcing Solution, 1998 - 1999 (i2 acquired this company for $9.3 Billion and eventually killed every single one of their products!)
An eSourcing platform for A.T.Kearney Procurement Solutions - eRFP and eAuctions - 1999 – 2001 (still being used by Volkswagen’s private B2B supplier platform as far as I can tell)
The technology platform for Wells Fargo’s WellsOne Commercial Card, 2000 – 2001
A Call Detail Record processing platform for Orange, UK, 2002
An Agency Commissions Calculation system for a leading health insurance provider in the USA, 2004 – 2005.
An Electronic Remittance Advice platform for a leading health insurance provider in the USA, 2005 – 2006.
Modernization of the member portal of a leading health insurance provider in the USA, 2006 – 2007.
A paperless system for health insurance underwriting for a leading health insurance provider in the USA, 2006 – 2007.
A new technology automobile policy administration system for a leading P&C Insurance company in the Middle East, 2007 – 2008.
Did my teams really do all that?
“You see George, you’ve really had a wonderful life”.
- Clarence the Guardian Angel in It’s a Wonderful Life
What is common to most of these solutions? Four things:
- Delivered using the onsite-offshore software delivery model with offshore being India
- Developed using technologies which, at that point in time, were considered cutting edge
- Developed under fixed-price commercial contracts (the exceptions being CustomerView and Strategic Sourcing Solution, which were products and not custom solutions)
- Delivered out of ISO & CMM certified development centers in Bangalore (all the solutions after 1995)
In addition to being a solution delivery manager, I double up as a solution architect in the J2EE space with the Unified Modeling Language being my area of special interest.
